  • Tested the VRay_ExtraTex, but needs longer?

Hi just wanted to know if i am doing something wrong! I was testing the new VRay_ExtraTex in SP2 and was wondering, that with this element enabled my test frame needs 5:20 min without it it does it is in 3:06 min. having an ao shader applied in old style the ao needs 26 sec. i did reuse the vray dirt map. So efficientcy wise it would be better to render the ao in a different job then as an element, or am i doing something wrong? my ao shader is a v-ray light material with a vray dirt map just in case

    interested in your ideas

V-Ray will try to antialias both the RGB image and the VRay_ExtraTex element at the same time, this means that if the AO pass needs more samples, the RGB pass will also be sampled more densely, which may lead to increased render times.

You can avoid this to some extent by un-checking the "Use for antialiasing" option for the VRay_ExtraTex element, and instead increase the subdivs for VRayDirt.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
