hehe... I probably shouldn´t say this but I guess Vray would be on point release 5 or 6 if they had the same upgrade speed vs quality/new features as the big A company...

And we would have features like Gaussian Blur over the final image to get rid of Blotches
resulting in a "major speed improvement"....

just forget the RT exists IMO. When completed, its going to hopefully provide a noticeable increase in workflow speed. Not worth getting all worked up over really.

Yeah definitely. I remember a while back before 1.5 came out everyone was demanding that the get a 1.5 release because they were promised a free upgrade to 1.5 when they purchased their original license. IMO, everyone was making way too much of a deal out of a release named "1.5" and missing the numerous new features and enhancements that were showing up in releases prior to that. At the time, I suggested that Chaos just release their current version as "1.5" and be done with it. The features that were added between 1.09 and 1.4x.xx were too numerous to mention (light cache, new materials, g-buffer/render layers, vray frame buffer, Fur, DR, etc, etc.) and more than justified a "1.5" moniker.

but throughout each waiting period, you have a pretty stable version of vray right there in front of you. Sure you want the new features, but patience is an art, not a science.

I bought Vray in March 2002... had been using it since December 2001.

It was release 1.0

In that time, Vray has grown an AMAZING amount... and I have not had to pay for a single update. The 1.5 update is way way way way beyond the original scope stated in 2002.

Even SP1 and SP2 go way beyond patches adding huge features that most people would be glad to pay for.

I would say that people get wrapped up in promises of "patches" which are actually huge upgrades.

Next time you get upset about Vray's development... ask yourself what you think about Vray 1.5 and vray 1.5sp2 (released only 6 months later) and then ask yourself how that compares to Max 2008 and Max 2009... I laugh when I see a Max (or Maya) upgrade.

I'm dang happy with it - and I've been rendering with one app or another since 1991. It's one of the finest pieces of software I've ever used.

Many of my apps make me mad.

Vray makes me happy.

(But I do wish it had volumetrics...)
