i must be missing something here.

"Yes, VRay's image sampling algorithms will automatically supersample texture maps."

    Best regards,

If vray doesn't allow super sampling at a material level, does it super sample the whole image? And why would i want to super sample a whole image and not just a material within that image? I'm confused. ( a common state for me sometimes)

What I probably meant it that when sampling an image in high contrast areas, V-Ray does not care if the contrast difference is because of a geometry edge, or because of a texture map feature (or a shadow edge, or reflection etc) - in any of these cases, V-Ray does exactly the same thing - e.g. place more image samples in these areas.

ok...so if i'm having trouble with a material that has many lines in it, is there some setting i should be going to? I don't want to just blur the whole render.
      thanks.

You could try to play with the texture filtering of the bitmaps in that material, but other than that there isn't much else to do except to increase the AA settings.

What about bluring said map outside of max?

ideally one would want the map to be clear as one gets close to it. The blur is just to eliminate the moire effect when it is at a distance.

If that's the case.. sure it's a little bit of a pain.. but if you can't get rid of it any other way.. have two maps. One for distance that is blurred and the regular map for up close.

well in this case, the map is an acad dwg converted to jpg file mapped over an entire terrain and the camera flys over the terrain from one end to the other.
