Is it supposed to mimic the .ies shape? So far it's only showing rectangles and discs and such so i'm not even sure what kind of an ies i loaded.

Yeah, I guess it's supposed to since it actually does... sometimes...
But I'm experiencing similar issues.
Usually when I load the IES file the VRay IES icon is shaped correctly, i.e., assumes the shape of the IES data. Then after a render or simply moving the light, the shape is back to the default disc shape never to return to the actual IES shape. Even reloading the IES file doesn't solve it. I would have to delete the light to get the IES shape back.
I have also had a couple of instances where the IES light seemed to have moved into a different position all of a sudden while I'm 100% sure I didn't move it myself! No idea why or when this happens. Ran into this three or four times.
I'm using Windows XP x64 and Max 2008 x64 btw.

I forgot to mention, xp s64 and max 9 x64 here. I've never seen vrayies take the proper shape, it does seem to change though - disc, rectangle, cone..Dusan Bosnjak

I would if I could... but all I'm getting now is either discs, spheres or planes... I literally tried about a hundred lithonia IES files (where it was really annoying that on file open it didn't open the folder I last used).
I'm really starting to question whether I was dreaming before or whether I was not
