  • how to use the search function?

hi, as i am a newbie in vray a lot of questions and problems occure to me in everyday work with that programm. as i don`t want to annoy everyone with doublepostings, i try at first to search the forum for threads about my questions. i often make the experience that i dont get the results which i am looking for.
can someone give me some tips how to search the forum effectively?
for example: when i search for "vray matte shadow" at the moment i get searchresults where threads with the word "vray" are marked red. i want to find only threads where the 3 words "vray matte shadow" occure in this order.
would be also thankfull for further searchingtips. the info in the faq is very small.

    First of all, welcome here

You could just use "matte shadow" (including the ""). Since this is a VRay forum, there's no need to include VRay in your search.
Then you can use the option to search for posts or threads. In your case searching for threads would be the best option.
And finally, with Advanced Search, you can specify a forum section where you want to search. When you're using 3dsMax there's no need to search in the VRay for Maya forums... I hope that helps, and I'm sure other people will be able to give you some more tips. Good luck!

thanks for the reply drjan. i checked, that with the " " i get only threads or posts where in the whole tread/post bouth words are embedded. is it possible to make a search where only threads/post are shown, where the exact text between the " " occures?

I thought that was what the " " did... at least with Google they do.
I don't know what you have to do with a forum. There's nothing about this in the FAQ?

nope, this is the only info i found in the faq:

          Can I search the forum?
You can search for posts based on username, word(s) in the post or just in the subject, by date, and only in particular forums.
To access the search feature, click on the "search" link at the top of most pages.
You can search any forum that you have permission to search - you will not be allowed to search through private forums unless the administrator has given you the necessary security rights to do so.
