  • Displacement

    Howdy,

If I have an object that has several material ID's how do I apply a v-ray displacement to just one of them? I have a site with sidewalks, grass, and roads. I would like to add a displacement to just the grass.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

u have to use "use object material" option in the displacement modifier and set it to 3d mapping.

      displacement

Does it use the material bump map? How do I apply an UVW per ID?

no. put ur displacement map into the material's displacement slot.
to map diferent id's just use the mat id switch for each modifier.

                  Object material

I am still having issues. Is it using the diffused material? Nothing seems to be being displaced? I have my diffused and bump maps populated.

This is one reason why I personally hate meshes that have mutli-subobject materials. I like each piece to be it's own object with it's own material, and just group everything into one object rather than attaching everything into one object Multi-subobject materials have their place of course.. I just don't like to use them unless it makes sence. But that's just me.

Anyway... shouldn't the displacement map be in the displacement slot (vray material) and not the bump slot?

                          displacement

Yes, the displacement should be in the materials displacement slot. It worked great.... both the uvw id and the displacement by material. I have been wanting to work this through for awhile so thanks for the help. I like to keep everything together for future modifications.
