  • Alpha pass?

    Hi guys, a simple question:
how do you render the alpha channel ONLY of a Max+Vray scene?

I could not find a quick way to do that. I have to uncheck a bunch of option in the Vray flag panel (reflections, maps, etc), and still I spend a lot of time rendering...

    thank you

    regards

easiest way would be to make your own alpha pass. If you dont want to render the entire scene, you can just assign a vray light material as global override and render it that way.

And if you're not using proxies, it's really easy to switch back to scanline to render out a quick pass.

          Hello guys,

Brazil 2 have a nice option that allow you to re-render only one render element ( Specular, diffuse, alpha etc...)

Maybe you could wishlist it... I don't have any idea of the complexity of this operation. I guest Vlado could answer

          Best regards...

When you render Alpha only passes you don't need any GI or Glossy effects or any of that stuff save displacement. turn it all off and but a simple material in the override. It will render pretty quickly.

Will the VRayLightMtl work with the GI turned off?

I second the use of the RenderMask Script on scriptspot. It works really well; especially on large scenes where I want to send to our farm in strips. I really wish max would handle Render Elements in strips via BackBurner. So lame.
