  • Reducing intensity of vraysun

Just wondered if it is possible to reduce the intensity/brightness of the sun without affecting the intensity/brightness of the vraysky? I still want the connection between the colouration/time of day of the vraysky by moving the vraysun, but I don't necessarily want the maximum intensity of the sun on all occasions.
    Kind Regards,

Select the sun, go to 'intensity', and lower the number?

The sky has it's own set of controls to do this - although you may need to click on a checkbox within the vraysun thing to split them up, i cant remember how it works and I always do it on autopilot.

But if I split them up, doesn't that mean I loose the time-of-day connection?

...Isnt time of day just the position of the sun?

But I thought that the position (ie time) of the vraysun dictated the colouration as well as the intensity of the vraysky?

            VraySun is related to VraySky...
Bring down the intensity of the sun and sky will follow

Create 2 suns. The first one wil prompt you for Vray sky, say yes, place it, turn it off, then create a second one, say no to the prompt question. so your sky is controlled by the first sun placement. Lower your first (off) sun, and you'll get a dusk sky with a noon sun, if you wan to

Doesnt do that on our end. Just this morning i've used all sun and hardly any environment light, and near overcast with only a very faint sunlight in another scene.

Tricky - the position of the sun does control the colour of the sky, yeah. Lowering the intensity of the sun wont change that.

Well cubiclegangster, lowering the sun intensity will lower the sky intensity..
1st image, sun OFF, intensity 1
2nd image, sun OFF, intensity .15
3rd image, left sun OFF, intensity .15, right sun ON, intensity 1

Well 'theblanch', I dont know how youve got it set up, but when I do that exact thing on mine the environment light levels stay exactly the same.
Turn sun off, render with intensity on 1. Change intensity to .01 and the render looks exactly the same.

Did you try checking the manual sun node checkbox like I said in my original post?

Heh, yes checking the manual sun node will let you set the two independently, I do it all the time, don't tell mother nature though.

LOL, I was reading your incomplete post and as soon as I read to myself "hap", the pic of the tornado instantaneously loaded up right in the middle of my screen.
