  • lemon slice material

    Hi Guys,

Any ideas how to create a realistic lemon slice material ?

This is my method so far.

I have taken an image of a lemon slice on a lightbox. So the image shows all the veins and structure of the lemon interior. With this image I mapped onto a plane and cut round the edge of the slice. I then shelled the slice to give it some depth. I created a black and white version of the lemon slice image to use as a refraction map. I put the B&W version into the refraction slot and turn up the glossy refractions. So now I can see through the slice, but it doesnt look right. I added some yellowish fog, but the diffuse map seems to lose its definition.

The image attached shows the version I made without fog.

    Any ideas ?

Try adding a touch of yellow to your refraction colour. If it does some inverse colour thing, somewhere in the material options you can change the energy thingo from RGB to monochrome. Alternatively, try using SSS in conjunction with refraction interpolation. It produces a smooth blurred, translucent material that you'd expect of citris pulp.
