  • LWF for NON Arhviz or not?

    Hi all

Would you recommend LWF as in physical VRay sun, sky and cam, and gamma 2.2 for non Arhviz stuff? Would you use it for an animated feature film for example? Or is it mainly for Arhviz stuff?
Also, in an animated short or full feature or even VFX, would you use GI or fake it?

    Kind Regards,
    Morne

scroll down to MasterZap stuff....a quote from that:

Do you think 2+2=10? If you don't think 2+2=10, you should use gamma correction. If you think it's "ok" that 2+2=10, then don't use it.

It is really much better to try and understand the reasoning behind gamma correction. Then you can figure out for yourself how much is 2+2, regardless of what people try to convince you.

        Vlado,

have you written down your views on the whole LFW thing somewhere? Something like, where's the misconception, what do people usually do wrong, is there a need for it and so on...

I'm under the impression that you are giving out table spoons in each lwf thread, but i can't really figure out where you stand at with this issue.

Not to put word into his mouth but I think this sums up vlado's take on it pretty well. http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...ad.php?t=33917 Read it and understand it.
          www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

so then if you say "use gamma" does that also imply you should use LWF as in Physical sky, cam and sun?
and I still dont know if I should use it for non arhviz

LWF is not the same as using the physical sun/sky/camera; you can use these either with or without LWF. However if you have photographs to match, most of these already have a 2.2 gamma correction burned into them, so you would need to do this to your rendering as well.
