  • VrayMesh Problem - URGENT

Having a very frustrating problem with VRAYMESH. Simply put we have created a scene with several objects included as VRAYMESH objects. The path for these is common to all our machines, and the external file paths are setup in MAX. Despite this however when opening the file on another workstation, or trying to render thru back burner the VRAYMESH objects just dont show up. We have no issues with our network and Im 99% confident that everything external to this is setup correctly. Is it likely a bug, and should I just use more versatile xrefs from now on?

    Thanks in advance...

Do you see any errors in the V-Ray log file related to this?

In any case, you are free to use X-Refs as you wish. They don't provide quite the same functionality as the V-Ray proxy objects, but if they work for you, I don't see any reason to avoid them, especially with the introduction of the "Auto" geometry option in V-Ray.

    Best regards,

i'm sure a lot of people have a similar network setup. we do, and here are some problems we had (they are all network related issues)

all of the paths should be in this format (UNC?) \\server\directory\file.vrmesh

(do not use something like z:\directory\file.vrmesh unless ALL machines have this network drive set up)

make sure every machine is logged on with permissions to access the shared directory on the server (we have 1 user that ALL renderfarm machines logon as).

Is your server running something like XP which has a 10 connection limit?.

Are the proxy files MASSIVE?. we use second copy to mirror the library onto the C drives of renderfarm machines to avoid any potential issues with this.

The only thing that you can rely on is that networking isnt 100% reliable no matter how much BS net-nerds and IT people tell you - theres always something that can go wrong. Maybe none of this fixes the problem and there is something else wrong, but it cant hurt to have another look at the networking right?.

deflix- can you give some more insight in to the problem?
        How big are the proxies?
Do you have any modifiers on top of the proxies?
What materials are on the proxies?

          thanks alot

..................information very useful. Regarding the network issues these are common as id suspect and definately network reliability dependent (we have MAC servers in this office) which im trying to change! As for the dissapeared VRAYMESHES this was caused by the nodes having older versions of vray on the the workstation interestingly. Ive subsequently tested this and can confirm that if sending a job from an SP2 machine to SP1 nodes the vraymeshes wont show up.

          thanks again
