  • please help me: "invalid bump normal" error without any reason

    Hi,
    I get this error message "returned and invalid bump normal" on one texture.
    I have:
    - uvw maps on all objects with this texture


    I have the colored version of the same texture on diffuse but error message is displayed only for the bump.


    my scene is at origin but it is rather a big scene (of one site with man buildings).
    but 0,0 origin is right at the center.

    pls help.

    error message disappears when I disable the bump map.
    it is strange.
    colored version of same map with same map channel is diffuse slot.
    diffuse is fine and bump has problem.

      typically its not a problem from what I recall. You may want to revisit your normals on the object, and check its tesselation (for bad topology).

          I have a case where this happens with the VRayEdgesTex used as a bump map, but I have to look into the precise reason.

            This may be the one I sent you Vlado. I fixed it later by simply hitting the retriangulate button in edit poly, although i'm unsure of how this would have fixed it.

              Actually the geometry is very simple on this object.
              Only 4 polygons.

              Think of a trapezoid polygon.
              I inseted this polygon. and then deleted middle polygon.
              so only 4 poly. and very basic.
              but it is a very very large object. this can be the problem?

              vlado: there are no vrayedge texture.

                  yes it has.

                  now already solved the problem. I deleted that object.
                  I re-modeled it. exactly the same way. exactly same dimension. same number of poly. all is same.
                  and now it is fine.
                  I didnt understand what causes problem.
                  but all is fine now.

                    I can report the same problem, but rebuild the material soved it w/o need to remodel.. some times even convert bump texture from png or bmp to jpg solved it too.
