  • exr vs. tif vs. png

I was wondering if somebody could shed some light on this subject for me. I'm rendering out an animation where I need to adjust exposure. I know I can do this with the Vray camera, but I'd rather have more control using After Effects. Here's the questions: is there an advantage in running an .exr file with the built in channels over a floating point tif or png and running the channels separately? Its just that the exr's take forever to covert from .vrimg, and equally as long to work with in After Effects.

    Thanks!

With newer builds you can save directly to exr instead of vrimg. Just specify .exr instead of .vrimg in VFB

Do you mean in the same place you can select the .vrimg? or in the common parameters under the file save location? It looks like we're on SP1, and I don't see the selection for .exr in the VR Frame Buffer roll out.

I guess my main question is that the .exr's seem to be quite intensive, and I didn't know if they have any advantage over a 48bit .png or a 32bit .tif with an alpha.

      Thanks for the response, though!

mind you that an 48bit png is not really 48bit per channel. It is 16bit actually.
