  • For what can be used ID output channels without antialiasing?

    Hi,

some weeks befor I got the info, that the missing AA of the output channels is not a bug, it's feature. I'm curious, for what can be used the channels with AA?
I have seen mat/object ID channels from other render engine, allways with all blur effects and full AA for postwork masks. Why are the Vray ID masks without AA?

because everything else is pointless. ID channels are integer. An integer value is 1, 2, 3, etc. If you do any kind of conversion to a color value (like a wire channel) then it would still be pointless because you cannot reliably select anything based on these colors. (nope, magic want is NOT an exact selection :P ) The only antialiased way to get PROPER masks is multimatte. It provides 3 masks per element. You can seperate these by simply using the red, blue or green channel as a mono channel.

What they are useful for ? Well if you need to determine RenderIDs ? :P

FaceID would be needed for Barycentric coordinates. But that isnt included if i recall right ?

    Thorsten
