  • PNG Opacity

    Dear Group,

Does anyone here know if VRAY/Max can read the opacity that is embedded in a PNG file? I tried using the technique prescribed here but it didn't work:

Here is a view of the PNG file that I tried this technique with:

    and here is the result:

As you can tell, something is very goofy here. Does anyone know if it is possible if the PNG opacity can be used because if not I will be required to spend an inordinate amount of time creating separate alpha maps, time I would rather spend modeling and rendering.

Of course you can do that; you need to use the map twice - once for your diffuse color slot, and once for the opacity slot with the RGB color taken from the alpha channel. Of course, this is not specific to V-Ray in any way - you use the same approach e.g. with the scanline renderer.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

      Thanks,

What they didn't (explicitly) say to do was that the Mono Channel Output should also be set to Alpha. When I did this, the results were as I expected.
