  • Making a spotlight with Vraylight

I am trying to wean myself off of using Max lights entirely, but I am not clear on what would be the best way to create a spotlight with a Vraylight. Is the only method to create barn doors or a snoot/cone with geometry? If so are there any noise issues to worry about with reflected light from the inside of the cone? Just wondering since that method can cause issues with engines like Fry/Maxwell which also have to use that approach.

Any tips until Franscesco's big book of Vray arrives?

For now, this is the only method, yes. Soon there may be a different solution for this however

There will be issues if the material for the barn doors on the inside is anything other than black. On the other hand, in the real world, barn doors are usually black, so it might make sense to model them this way too in 3d.
