A New Version of Onyx to arrive next week!

I've seen quite a few postings lately about whether or not Onyx should be used or abandoned, so I thought I'd mention that if all goes as planned, Onyx will be announcing a new and much improved version of its program next week.

Can't say anything more about it right now, but I'll be doing a free 1-hour webinar in mid January to highlight the new program.

Incidentally, if anyone plans to upgrade or to purchase the program for the 1st time, Onyx is extending an exclusive 10% discount to anyone that has purchased a 3DATS book. This disccount can actually cover the cost of the Beginner to Intermediate book.

there now finally is something new on onyxtree website. Seems they have other new products also www.onyxtree.com
well its about time. I wonder if it is any good?

It wonder if the "old" programs have changed. Then whether you would be buying new products or upgrade you always pay the full price, except for the TreeStorm plugin. Of course you get some extra library content. Not that I mind that much, because it still is the best tree software. I just wish the interfaces would be more intuitive or you simply could draw a silhouette for generating trees , and a preview for mapped leaves, etc.

So, I looked at the website pretty carefully, and it seems like the only new things are the Grass modeler and Onyx2Max plugin. The existing tree modelers and plugins do not seem like they have been upgraded at all, which is a little disappointing. I was hoping for some new features and a better user interface, but I see no sign of that happening.

and what is worse of all is that this "fancy" new grass program does not have WIND. In other words wind can not affect it like it can with the trees.
Major bummer!

It seems the ONX format used by the ONYX2MAX plugin is not fully compatible with all of the modelers yet, just the new OnyxGRASS...

"We plan to implement full material ONX support in the future releases of all our modelers."

...no mention of free inclusion for those upgrading now though. Might be something to talk with them about if that feature is important to you.

You may want to do this with the new version of VRayScatter anyway...
