  • Chaos group hard to work with?

I have started working at a firm and I am setting up my own rendering system. I asked to purchase a seat of Vray. The message came back through our reseller that we should use Maxwell instead that "the company that makes vray is too hard to work with" so the local reseller has stopped carrying them. I spat out my coffee, reread the e-mail just to make sure that I read it right.

I have worked with Vray for 4 or 5 years and I have never ever even heard anything bad about chaosgroup (I can only assume they mean chaos). And then to compare Chaos to Nextlimit... bah its been done. Now where could this be coming from? Ideate media is the name of the local reseller. I think I will be able to use digimation to purchase.

We have a number of other resellers in the USA (see http://www.chaosgroup.com for a full list) and I don't think they find us all too hard to work with. We have had a strenuous relationship with Ideate, Inc. in San Francisco, mostly due to their unwillingness to put any significant effort into selling and supporting V-Ray. This has ultimately forced us to stop working with them.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I was really surprised to hear that. I am disappointed that they aren't carrying you especially as these guys are the only reseller in this whole area. I think I will still get a seat so thats good for me.

Glad to hear it! I can't imagine having to work with Maxwell - "well i'm doing a test render i'll be back tomorrow".

Hard to work with basically translates as 'wont do our jobs for us' in this case then? haha.

As much as I like the idea behind maxwell, it's still a joke to actually use.

Compared to Maxwell, Fryrender works alot faster and looks good.
I saw a demonstration last week and I was impressed with the quality. I'm not convinced about the speed though. They could show some nice things, but those were small test renders and nothing compared to the complex interiors.
Although they did say that polycount doesn't influence rendertime.

              there is a saying:
some times you can do every thing right, and still lose.
By that I mean, you can be the nicest guys in the world and still not please some one, or whatever. In this business good and bad rep is very much a part of the deal.

I wouldn't say that Next Limit is terrible, and maxwell is a bad product. To say that is to be not professional. I have used maxwell and worked with NL, and while they are not greatest, they are not that bad. And maxwell is getting there.
