It was, but some important issues turned up that need to be corrected, and that took more time than expected (like the vanishing VFB issue in 3ds Max 2009 - small thing but quite hard to figure out).
strange that you should mention the vanishing VFB issue.
i've just installed a new hd image, so i've now got max 2009 design with random occurences of disappearing/hiding VFB - this never occured with that other sdk version of max 2009...
In fact, the VFB did not vanish as such, it was moved below the 3ds Max main window; some people claim that using OpenGL instead of DirectX makes things better, but I have not verified this.
This sounds like what I experience sometimes on sp2 (max 2009 64bit).
It only happens with a certain amount of windows\editors open (not sure of how many, only that it never happens when I just have the Vfb open), but I'm fairly certain that the material editor is always open when this occurs for me.
Guys, regarding the dissapearing vray frame buffer. You can use a programme called: forcewindowvisible.exe that brings any window you click on in the list to the front. Very easy and quick to use.
i can second that issue with the VFB. I had a scene about 850mb and allways the vfb is disappearing when i hit render. switching to opengl made this error a little better but it is always there.
it was on my 7900GT. After switching to a gtx260 all is fine now. really strange maybe a nvidia driver issue.
