  • Onyx Tree to Vray Proxy Problem

After using Onyx trees as proxies for several years, I just started having problems when converting them to a vray proxy. Now, nearly every tree I proxy is missing half of the polygons so it renders with holes. I searched the forum, found others with the same problem but didn't find a definite solution. Colapsing them to an editable mesh prior to proxy didn't solve anything. The original Onyx tree imported as a 3DS renders fine, just the proxy has the problems. Ideas?

    Thanks, Craig

Do you convert the imported .3ds file, or an Onyx object directly? Do you have any modifiers on top of the proxy object?

      Vlado,

      Thanks for the reply.

I convert the imported 3ds file. I think I might have found the problem. The scene I imported the 3ds meshes into was huge. Now I'm importing the same 3ds files into a blank scene, exporting the vray mesh and things are working again. I'll try importing these proxies into the master scene and see if they still hold together.

I opened the original scene (410 Mb) and merged a proxy from the smaller scene and the merged proxy renders fine. I then did this test: Two identical trees side by side, one proxied in the huge scene, the other proxied in the small scene. I selected the problem proxy. In Modify, I selected Object and browsed to the newly created proxy geometry data. Made sure both trees were looking at the same data for their geometry. Rendered and the problem proxy is still full of holes. I don't have a clue what's going on. Any thoughts?

I'm not quite sure then; can you get us the scene to vray@chaosgroup.com along with the problem proxy file?
