  • Brute Force/Brute Force Problems

I'm trying to render an animation and wanted to try using only brute force. Trouble is, I can't even render a single frame using primary and secondary brute force. Part of the render looks fine, the other looks like an IR precalc image. What is the secret to rendering with brute force only?

I don't have any secrets, can you post the image so we can see what you are talking about?

After shutting down and restarting Max, there was a major improvement. But there is still a lot of noise. Here is a closeup. I've tried increasing the Subdivs and Secondary Bounce numbers but it doesn't seem to help.

increasing your bounce numbers isn't going to change your noise much. You need to look at your global dmc settings. Also what method of antialiasing are you using?

well if you end up using adaptive subdivision you do need to increase minimum sampling to be more then -1, otherwise it defeats the purpose.

Thanks Morbid Angel. I tried to find information on rendering using brute force but couldn't find anything that explained it so I just used the defaults that came up. Should I not use adaptive subdivision and if not, what? Could you explain to me why I shouldn't use -1 and what purpose am I defeating? Or, if you know of a place that explains all this, I'd like to know.

these are the basics of anti-aliasing. In vray and other raytracers, anti-aliasing is also used to resolve noise. Noise is a result of traced rays, weather direct, indirict or otherwise.

In vray you can increase the quality of noise by increasing the amount of anti-aliasing samples taken. More samples, better quality but longer render time.
