  • Bone Material Help

    Hello everybody, i just got some time of from work and use my freetime in doing some light and texture studies.

    i just downloaded a free museum scene from cgtalk and try to render it out

    but i have heavy problems creating a realistic bone materials for the dino.

    the result i would like to get is shown here below

    or here this version, which i would like to prefer

    has anyone created a material similar to that before? maybe someone can point me to a good textures or shader

    right now i am using a blend material, in the base there is the diffuse texture and some bump maps, at the coat material there is a light reflektion with a glossy value of 0.67

    any tipps would be more than welcome

    here are some testrenders, cc are more than welcome!!!!

    thanks again and best regards from vienna

      Hrmm.. I wonder if the fact that most dinosaur skeletons on display are often comprised of many replica bones, of various materials, would make any difference?

        any bone needs a decent sss material. with few exceptions.

          @sea2stars

          Thanks for your input, i had allready thought about that too, i think most of the skeletons are simply replica, the one that are real shout be somewhere between a stone and a bone material.

          thanks again!!

            It's worth noting that fossils are made of rock, not bone. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that mineralised water seeps into the porous bones over time and as the original structure decays the mineral deposits are left behind, which gives us fossils.
