  • color mapping and render elements

I read several times that using non linear color mapping is a bad idea if you would like to comp vray render elements? What are exactly the problems?

What is the workaround if we want to use exponential or reinhard color mapping together with comping of render elements? I need this color mapping to prevent the highlights from clipping/burning, I really love it.

A workaround is perhaps to use exponential mapping for the render setup and do the final element output in linear mapping. Then you can, after comping the elements, do the color mapping yourself in post using a similar color curve. But then there are other problems that arise such as when you adjust your exponential color mapping multipliers in the render setup phase. How do you have to adjust your exponential curve to match those multiplier adjustments. What do you guys think?

Another issue I have is the combination of color mapping with lwf, I always use the don't affect colors button, this gives better results for for gamma 2.2 space renderings but it naturaly also eliminates the color mapping, so gone color mapping.

I hope this post makes some sense...
