    SP3 is f%&/# great...
i can't stop playing with SSS2 and fog...

but it's a shame how this new features are presented to the public.

this is how things should be presented on the net:
    http://www.luxology.com/modo/401.volumetric.lighting/

    not:
    http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/news....=108#newsid108

"The complete list with the improvements of the existing features can be found in the changelog file, which is a part of the installation."

See here's the thing - I doubt VRay is getting many new customers - it has them already. IMO, VRay's current market is people moving into a new job and requesting VRay, as well as existing places buying more licenses.

No one needs to be sold on VRay, they already were 5 years ago.

I disagree. Marketing and public presence are an ongoing concern. Vray may not *need* the push that Modo does, but it would benefit, and that need can change, particularly in down economies. Vray and Chaos visual marketing could use some updating for sure.

I also hope you are wrong that Vray isn't getting any new customers - because they will need them to really continue development and support. Chaos has done a huge amount at no charge for existing customers already, but they should be getting some new blood (or blood from some older stones ) in order to keep it up.

To me presentation makes a huge difference. It affects my decision to buy or use a product greatly (a new one mostly). I agree it should be an ongoing concern. There's a saying here (I guess it goes for everywhere) that you can sell anything if you package it well.

I do like seeing different samples of the features...but honestly....i have a huge amount of trust in VRay so it doesn't really matter to me. Usually i like to see samples and then demo the software then read what others are saying about it....but as i said...i trust the product they put out. I wish they would go the whole nine yards and make a complete 3d program. We can wish can't we?

Guys, we do realize we need to put more effort into this, and there are some works in that regard. For SP3 in particular, there will be a more complete page with images and examples of the new features.

              Best regards,
              Vlado

I absolutely agree. It is in our own interest that VRay makes good money, gets more users and stays on top of things. And there ARE people out there that make beautiful images but never even tried VRay or are still under the impression that it's "weak" compared to others !! I wonder what's the reasoning behind a 10+ year paid upgrade cycle

Another important thing that is not evident in the marketing image is the quality of service. As far as service is concerned, I think Chaos is the best

Quoted for agreement! Marketing your product is important, until it starts becoming just marketing and not progress, think how many millions most car manufacturers have wasted pushing low mpg vehilces, instead of developing better cars... Build something good and they will come, build crap and you HAVE to convince them to come.

I think it's always good to produce polished marketing materials as it's always good to get the most mileage from what you have but the VRay community already does do a tremendous amount of work in real-world promotion. Some of the things that really stand out for me:

                        1. The sheer volume of amazing images you can find on the web rendered with V-Ray. This says more than anything perhaps about quality.
                        2. The number of posts in other rendering forums aspiring to V-Ray
                        3. Amazing resources like http://www.vray-materials.de/
                        4. Some great material from the people here (instructional DVD's, books, scripts) focused on VRay
                        5. This forum, which is active and full of working professionals and yet small enough to still be a community.
                        6. Vlado's personal involvement with the community and amazing dedication and responsiveness.

This is all stuff I looked into before committing to V-Ray and V-Ray has more than exceeded my expectations. So I, like I imagine most of the people here, am constantly giving this program praise. I would guess, as someone else also stated, that all of that word-of-mouth promotion sells a lot of copies of V-Ray. I know, it's one of those tools I recommend without reservation.

But yah, in the end, better marketing materials sure wouldn't hurt.
