  • Usefull links for vector maps creation

    Hello all,

I thought i would start this topic so we can all gather some usefull links pointing at software and tuts concerning vector maps and displacement

    heres my links

Normals maps and Vector displacement maps don't really have anything in common. Normal maps define the direction of the surface at one point when vector displacement map defines surface offset in XYZ space.

Well, people might post other links for actual vector displacement

        Best regards,

Which methods does vray vector displacement incorporate in your opinion?

              1) World space vector displacement - RGB in picture mean XYZ shift in space. It is most precise method, but it is not good for animation.

              2) Tangent space (local space) displacement - RGB mean shift in TBN - space, N- normal, T,B - directions of U,V gradient. This kind of displacement is good for animation but less precise because tangent space calculation can be made using many methods, it even can be non - orthonormal.

V-Ray uses tangent (texture) space displacement.
