  • Question about license system

    Hi everybody,
We are trying to update to the newest version of Vray and we need to order the dongles. We have 2 workstations, 1 main server and 15 rendernodes. My question is: if we are NOT gonna move the licenses to other computers (at home or other workstations) what do you think is better, a Dongle with 2 licenses in it or 2 Dongles with one license in each one? The first option will be attached to the main server that we need to access anyway to work with the textures and the models, and the second option will be attach each dongle in the single workstations.

Is it better to have the license in the workstation to avoid accessing the network each time that the license need to be check? Does it do it very often?

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I read in another Dongle posts, once the render has been send to the main server through Backburner (this main server will then distribute the render to the rendernodes) it doesn't need to keep checking from licenses, at least for this render, isn't it?

I know there are a lot of dongle threads in there, but i didn't find any regarding these questions, almost all of them are about problems and this kind of stuff. Sorry if that's already been asked somewhere else?

    and Thanks in advanced!

To load, edit and submit a job in Max, Vray must see the dongle. Once the job has been submitted to backburner you can unplug the dongle. However I had problems when the backburner manager and server are restarted: when doing that I think you need the dongle plugged in until the first VRay job is started. Maybe you need to do this too when you add a new render node. Others any experience with that ?
