  • DR'ing prepasses in SP3

Am I correct in thinking that I can now use DR to precalc the LC (in flythrough mode) and IRmap (in incremental add to current mode) with SP3?

So in a nutshell, I'll be able to 'quickly' render the prepasses out and save them from my local machine after all the nodes have finished.

    If this is correct, bravo.
    If not, oh well, nevermind
    Kind Regards,

"(*) Support for the incremental modes of the irradiance map in distributed rendering;"

In the changelog. I could be misunderstanding things though - it is a Friday afterall!

          From the changelog
          (*) Support for the incremental modes of the irradiance map in distributed rendering;

You can calculate the irradiance map using DR, it works quite well, just set it to incremental add (multiframe incremental should work too). The Lightcache i think is still calculated on one pc. I tried it last week and it worked like a charm.

I think we posted at the same time! I guess the flythrough LC is calculated on each machine and then the irmap is a combined effort.

here for me it´s work perfekt.
LC doesnt work distributed, but the IM now work perfekt for precalculation in DR mode (Flythrough Animation)

              regards chris

So are you using brute force and irradiance map then?

i think the option you guys should be paying more attention to is the "use camera path" option. looks lovely

That's what I am wondering. My guess is the 'use camera path' option will work quicker and be 'cleaner' than the usual 'add to incremental' etc.

Yup, very interesting feature, i will test it over the weekend. Do i understand it correctly that i activate that option in both LC and IRR, activate "dont render final image" and simply render frame 0. Once its done i load the maps and render out the whole animation?

if its just a single frame then simply use DR, no need for an incremental add or camera path option - right?

So does "use camera path" work with moving objects, like an animated sun?
                            please say yes.

Since nobody answered my question i wanted to report back that it seems to be the right workflow. I rendered one sequence the old way and another one with the use camera path option on and the result is the same, but the precalc time droped quite a bit
