Anyone point out how the new VRay_Samplerate Element can be helpful?
Is there a way to use it to resample the image in post?

I use it during render testing to see if I am pumping enough DMC samples at the shot. Usually not enough samples=noise and it amazes me how you can quickly see issues in the sample rate pass.

It's an extremely useful diagnostic tool. I doubt you'd ever use it for the visual result!

Dejavu you sure do change your business names a lot - I remember the first one that I forget the name of - it had one of the earliest and best VRay tutorials ever. Your work was and continues to be absolutely inspirational and sets the benchmark as far as i'm concerned!

          Thanks for the reply guys.
It's a shame we can't make it work for us in post.
For example, some sort of selection based on samplerate brightness which could be somehow used for blur/sharpening in post.

hey duke2: thanks for the kind words. It may seem like I have moved around a bit but in reality, I was with osmosis for about 7 years, and then joined zaxis for 4 years, and then recently started loft animation. Which isn't too much churn for our industry. I do like to stay in a place for a while, until I have to change due to circumstances...

I haven't actually looked at the sample rate output, but could you not convert it to grayscale and use it to mask IN a slight blur, or mask OUT any sharpen filter?

Duke - genius. We sometimes did the same thing in work by using a find edges filter in after effects and using that pass to drive a compound blur. Same idea as what you're suggesting.
