  • Can't see background through glass

I know this has been discussed before, but not answered for this method. I am doing a 360 of a car, but rotating the camera around the car, therefore my background image is mapped onto a surrounding dome, and I am not using the vray environment and reflection slots, but rather using my domes as the light and reflection sources. By using this method I can't uncheck the "reflection environment override" to see the background through the glass, since my background is the image mapped onto a dome, and it's moving.

I have tried all options with the vray glass material and still can't see through the glass to the background. I am able to see through the glass if I use a standard transparent Max material. This doesn't seem as nice as vray glass so I wanted to learn how to make the vray material work.

OR.....if I can use the Vray environment to achieve such an interactive 360 with my environment, please let me know. I am having some trouble doing it that way.

Why not? you don't need an override since you have the dome. You don't need any "environment" settings again since you have the dome. I'm sure your glass mat settings are fine. Just uncheck the reflection/refraction override.

If you map a texture onto a dome then that is your "real" environment.
On the otherhand, environment "override" is a cheated environment which "simulates" the texture being in the background.

    Hope that helps.
