  • 3d-displacement and "use obj mtl"?

i´m using vraydisplacement in 3d-mode to create grass/detail on big terrain-meshes with several mixed/compsite maps/masks and bitmapchannels.

when having the map sitting directly in the vraydisplacementmodifier (common params- texmap) everything is wonderful, when dragging the same map to the material displace slot (use obj mtl) lightcache creation takes ages or just crashes max.

for scene management, it would be much nicer to have the displacementmap sitting in the landscape-shader an not somewhere wihin the modifier, is there a trick?

Can you get me the scene for this to vlado@chaosgroup.com? It should not matter if the map is taken from the material or from the modifier.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Hey guys, I'd be interested to hearing the solution to this as well -- we had a project a few months back where I was doing something similar, with a VRayBlendMtl and mattes dividing different areas of ground cover. I couldn't figure out how to have different displacements in the various matte regions without using the displacement map channel in the material, which blew up the renders. It was for an animation so I figured I was being overly ambitious, but if you come across a fix I'd definitely be interested!

      Thanks,
      Shaun

i´m sorry, but it was just another big mesh without vraydisplacement but using the same material - when dragging the displacementmap from the modifier slot to the shader slot of course rendertime is upping
