  • hot spot - specular - from vray to post ?

    Hello,

does someone know a good method how to make glare effects ?
I am wondering which data can be used to get kind of an alpha channel for that thing.

here is a picture, this is what I mean:

so.. if I could get an alpha of the hot spot of a reflective surface, or the specular highlight. I could use that in post for some nice glare, star or shine effects.

the question is just, how to get it out from vray ?
    any ideas ?

thx a lot for every hint and suggestion,

Render float. Make the lightsource causing it pretty bright and do a luma key. Daddaaa

      hmm...

so you mean, I should increase teh value so much, that I will get a very high floating value of the speicifc material ?

and after that, just add it on top of the regular render in post ?

hmm.. but I would need to render a seperate run with the high values...
if I do understand you right... hmm, thx for the info...

      any other ideas ?

Check out Frischluft. They have some great plugins for the glare stuff.

I'd go with Trapcode Starglow now days. More control over output (like color shift):

          http://www.trapcode.com/products_starglow.html

As to your original question - just make sure output is unclamped, and isolate just the really, really burnt out areas and/or spit out a specular and reflection pass and grab the high areas from those.

Also, try adding an UnclampedColor element with a multiplier of ~0.3 and color mapping off. It will help spit out the highs without needing to render to a 16 or 32bit format.
