  • vray blend material by frame

I'm working on rendering several thousand images for a product configurator for a furniture company I work for. I'm setting up the file similar to an animation. Each frame has different geometry and the materials change every frame for 8 frames and then only the material repeats every 8 frames.

I'm using the vray blend material with 8 different multi/sub-object materials(4) each, that are set to change every frame for 8 frames and then repeat. I use the blend amount to change which material is visible during the different frames. The blend box is either white or black depending on which is visible by frame. Using keyframe this works well. I just copy the frames for materials for each 8 frames. I use visibility under object properties to hide each piece as the frames run.

Well, this works fine until I save the file and reopen. For some reason the material no longer repeats accurately every frame as it does before I re-open the file. I can't understand why and I can't figure out another way to accomplish what I need.

Can anyone help with this problem? Vlado?

Do you have a simpler scene with such a material that you can send me to vlado@chaosgroup.com?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Thanks for the offer Vlado. I figured out the problem. I needed to key all 8 different materials for each of the first 8 frames before I copied them to other frames. Works great now.

Considering we have thousands of these to do, the vray blend material is a real time saver!!
