  • Animation (Rendering) IRmap Mode

Running into inconsistant render times when using the Animation (Rendering) GI mode. Should the render times be close to the same time when pulling a stored IRmap using From File mode? One project I have the render times are close but a different project the Animation mode takes twice as long compared to rendering from a stored IRmap.

    Any thoughts?

It depends on how many maps you are blending together; reducing the "Interpolation samples" may help to speed things up a bit.

Just did a few tests and it looks like for every sample multiplies the render time of a single stored IRmap. Does this sound correct??? If so, it seems time consuming to use this method when compared to Med Animation or High Animation - BUT the final result does produce a cleaner GI on moving objects...

      A. Single stored IRmap = 10mins
      B. Animation (rendering) mode with 0 Interp. Samples = 10mins - No blending = same as A)
      C. Animation (rendering) mode with 1 Interp. Samples = 20mins
      D. Animation (rendering) mode with 2 Interp. Samples = 30mins

      Thanks!

        Rendering times

Interesting...render times for an animation using a stored IRmap sequence running Animation (Rendering) are reduced as more and more frames of the sequence are rendered. Rendered a 180 frame animation and the frames went started at 7:40 but by the end of the job it was down to 5:40 per frame (~26% time difference). The same job with Medium Animation GI settings produces consistent 5:00 frame times from beginning to end. So why does Animation (rendering) gradually get faster as more frames are rendered when it's set to only blend a certain number of IRmap samples?
