  • Reflect objects only but not environment?

Is there a way to reflect only the objects in the scene but not the environment?

Eg, an object is standing on a plane. The scene is lit by an HDR. I'd like the object to reflect the HDR as the environment, but the plane to reflect the object only excluding the environment (HDR).

    Thanks.

You'd probably have to do it in two passes I think. Just change the alpha contribution of your object to -1 under vray properties and that will create a mask for just the plane. If your hdr is in a dome light then just turn on/off the 'affect reflections' option. Or use environment override instead.

Yeah I don't think it's possible either - you're going for a product shot sitting on a shiny surface type of thing? You could try adding the HDRI into the environment slot of the materials of your object rather than in the max environment tab so you're localising the effect of the hdr - hopefully not too many materials to apply this to.

set the Environment slot in the VRayMaterial to be a VRayColor set to black.
This only overrides standard environment and the global reflection overrides. If your
reflection is coming from a domelight you'd have to untick "affect reflections" in the Domelight.
