quick question about cpu + gpu technology
when it comes to vray sp3a/vray rt gpu will it take full advantage of what windows 7 have to offer or will it run the same as vista/xp/me/2000/98/93...
meaning windows 7 is introducing DirectCompute technology

sorry if no one understood my question.......
    here it goes.........
with the new Microsoft windows 7 there is a new technology (DirectCompute) that lets applications tap the power of graphics processors to accelerate performance, giving the system processor a boost. nvidia has updated their driver to interact with the new technology.

i was wondering if vray sp3a/vray rt will recognize the new technology in windows 7, or will it run without detecting the new technology? (will i notice a difference in performance with the new technology or will i have to wait for a new vray to better interact with the DirectCompute technology)

Seems like windows 7 is on the ball with cuda. Hope it isn't something that bloats in the end, but in that v-ray rt video it was stated they are going openCL so probably not bluediablito.
I can picture render monkeys having fights with gamers by the video card section at the mall, over the last pair of brand new g300's "Let go of my openCL enabled device biatch!!!". Glorious.

I assume the question is based on a misunderstanding of DirectCompute. DirectCompute is basically like CUDA or OpenCL just for Direct3D instead of OpenGL. It had been announced a while back. It is a complete no-go once more if you wanna support multiple platforms (as VRay standalone and VRay Maya do) as DirectCompute will be only available to the Windows/Direct3D World.

ok now i am really confuse....... windows 7 is mainly base for one company "nvidia"?
sorry for all these question but i really believe that windows 7 was going to be open to all gpu and it would use a basic scrip that would help manage the cpu and the gpu function. and with that scrip vray would be able to combine its scrip and take full advantage of the os instead of running separately

last question what is the difference between CUDA or OpenCL just for Direct3D instead of OpenGL when it comes to rendering or performance?

The difference in renderperformance would depend more on the code that is run rather then the different approaches i'd say.

DirectCompute does not mean win7 (and programs written for it) will automatically run on the GPU. Not at all. It is just an API to allow programmers to general purpose programming on the GPU. You have to develop that tho. It's nothing that comes automatically.

And for the above reasons OpenCL makes a hell lot more sense then DirectCompute.
