  • Panoramatic stereo render

    HI !
I have a task to render stereo panorama of an interior scene we did ( using vray ).

    - Is there some sort of plugin that will generate appropriate camera rig and render images and compose them later together?

    I'm totally hopeless here

    Any help appreciated !!!

No one has experience with rendering dome stereo panoramas in VRay?

Well for still images you can just render 2 views with offset of the eye distance, but I'd have no idea how this would work with a panoramic projection...

        Thanks for the reply!
Well it is not that easy - as you can see at the bottom of this page
        http://local.wasp.uwa.edu.au/~pbourk...cs/povcameras/

... I mean - imagine looking north in the scene. If you simply render 2 spherical panoramas from cameras, 65mm between them, you will get incorrect stereo in any other direction other than north and south. This is because relative distance between cameras will go down to 0 when looking west and east.

What I need is a camera rig that rotates and therefore provides correct stereo for every angle viewer can look.

I'm sorry for my weak english, I hope that the link will make it more clear.

        --- EDIT : here I found a camera rig example - http://local.wasp.uwa.edu.au/~pbourk...ameras/rig.gif

I think that you are stuck with coding the correct camera yourself. There isn't anything like this in max or vray and I haven't seen any plugins either. There is no way to get the effect without camera specifically coded for this.

it's no problem to rotate two liked cameras by 360°, but that wont work with a quicktime style panorama, where it's just one big projected image. you're rather making a movie with many frames, is that's what you're looking for?

MasterBercon - thanks, I think so too. I will find & contact someone who is setting up these systems here in Prague and ask him what data he needs to fill his machine with.

plastic_ - in the end it should end up as 2 panoramas - one for each camera.

I will let you know what I find out later.

              regards,

I'm also interested in your research,
if you could post some explanation if you find some,
                I would really appreciate.

                Thanks

                  ... ok I found this.

I will have to render rather large number of strips from 2 dome cameras.

Let's say I want to render a final panorama with size of 2160*1080 ( picture has to be 2:1 and it's better to render size that can be divided by 180 ).
                  I will render 720 strips ( camera will rotate by 0.5 degree ) with size of 2160 / 720 = 3x1080 px ( recommended is to render 2x horizontal size = 6x1080 px)
I will have 720 strips rendered and stitch them together in PS.

I'm going to test it and find out if I'm able to render camera where at the bottom is vector Z=-1 and at the top is vector Z=1 so the height is 180 degrees dome and width is 0.5 degree.

                    Hi,

everything went fine with camera rig (spherical camera with 0,5 degree FOV)
rendering 720 frames of animation (rotating rig 360 degrees) in 3x1080 px resolution.
Appended the pictures with Image Magick into final spherical panorama for each camera.

Here I attach preview volume panoramas.
