  • ooooh, error messages galore in new Vray build..

Hi everybody. (hi doctor nick!) I have a quick question, i just downloaded the new Vray build and amd very pleased with the new features that have been implemented. But now i have this wonderful message window telling me that "WARNING: MATERIAL RETURNED OVERBRIGHT OR INVALID COLOR (OBJECT NAME)" .
What does that mean? As far as I can tell, my render looks ok. Does anyone else get this? Also I got the error message "WARNING: HDRI MAP LOCKED, NOT LOADING" Again, I dont get what this means, i have had no problems using HDRI maps. Just in case this helps id the problem, i'm using Vray advanced. I mean, its not affecting me because like I said, my renders looks fine (damn fine!) but its bugging me...
    Can anyone shed some light?

    Regards

    Marc

    Sounds like 'video color check'.
A Map with birghtness over the maximum of 255.255.255 would overbright.
I had this message some time ago, but I can't remember where...

Well, ok, but isnt the whole point of HDRI that they go over 255,255,255? Plus, my renders look fine.

        overbright

Had the same message to. I think it was caused by some self-illuminated glass...everything looked fine. Not going to worry about it because worrying knocks 10-15 off your life.

This message has been there for quite a while but as there was no message window it was only found in logs debug messages. ( as it says)this message is issued if there is an overbright spot somewhere in the scene. As HDRI maps contain values far over the standard 1.0 (255) values it is pretty normal to get that message when using HDRI maps. This warning message is pretty useful when one uses standard illumination of the scene but gets overbright strange color blotches in the scene. The reason is usually bad mapping coordinates or buggy fractals etc. It may be used to track when and which object is the problematic one.

If one is usually rendering without irradiance maps - the bright color is dimmed by antialiasing and super sampling so its usually not visible. However, if there is irradiance map involved - this value affects a lot the neighbouring light samples so it results in a blotch.

Great , thank you for the reply Peter. So basically, its safe to ignore it unless there is something visibly wrong with the image, in which case it will help you solve it. Cool. It all makes perfect sense now.
