  • convert Pro Materials to Vray

    Hi All
    doing some revit stuff via FBX and want to get the pro materials into VRAY.
    tried all the options out there so far and no dice.
    Anybody know how to get this material info across?

    I don't think it gonna work.pro meterials is mental shader.

      Revit

      I came across this too and I never found a solution. This alone might be why people chose Mental Ray over V-Ray. AutoDesk pushes the interoperability hard. I get a lot of Revit models that have the materials assigned to them and I can't use them because Revit uses pro materials.

        ProMaterials suck in Mental Ray. They work, but they suck just the same. Lack of control, so you can not spped tweak them, or really get in depth into customizing them.

          umm..I think vray vs mentalray. speed is vray and mentalray is the shader. just my opinion.
          vraymat is lack of more advance BRDF control. Pro material is very realitics shader if u know how to use it. I found vray have a similar shader like that. Vraysss2?? right?

            It can't directly convert everything, but one of the nice features is that it can convert materials that it doesn't know how to deal with into basic Vray materials, so at least you can get rid of all the incompatible materials with a couple clicks. I've had some Revit models that had a ton of materials and to go through to get those just to basic Vray material would have taken forever.

              I agree that Vray Mats are faster. I read on this forum somewhere that it has something to do with how the mats are processed by their respective engine.

              I was simply making a passing statement about my lack of appreciation for the ProMat's.

              I can decently fast results with A&D shaders. Now if I used ProMaterial shaders, I don not get fast results. You need to crank the settings up, and wait forever. ProMaterials are more for the novice user in my opinion. They are more of a point and click type of method. Most advanced users need a trade off between speed and quality. ProMaterials by default do not give you those options, those there are a few people out there who are unlocking some of the features, but as for shaders for use with MR, A&D beats ProMats.

                oppps I mixed up with pro mat and A&D shader. yea A&D is awesome realism
