  • Vray Local Dealer Restrictions

As the dollar currency is quite low right now, I thought to myself it would be a good idead to buy another license of vray. I then proceeded to find an online dealer to purchase from. After a short while I found some good deals, ranging from $865 - $1000.

These are good prices. So I am about to pay, and then I read, Can only be sold to customers in the USA, Canada and Mexico, on orders from Chaosgroup.

This ticks me off a little, as I am sure the price in South Africa is going to be more expensive. After checking for resellers in South Africa online, I can only find one (Touchvision.co.za). Their online listed price for vray in R10 356 ($ 1,39. This is almost $400 more expensive than from an online store in the USA. If I take off the tax of 14%, the price is still R9,084.21 ($1,226.36).

This means there is still a difference of $226.36.
What I would like to know is why is the price more expensive, considering that there is NO support on there behalf and you download the software from the internet. All they seem to do is give you the physical dongle.
What also annoys me is that they have a monopoly on this software distribution in South Africa (I stand to be corrected).

I would very much like to promote your software in our country, but find online trade restrictions unfair. My solution to this problem is not to give into the whim's of distributers, but encourage them to move with the times by reducing there prices to compete with other international online resellers.
This would then encourage potential local buyers to purchase the product from them, as appose to being forced.

I've ran into this with other vendors.
My understanding of it is it's a policy to protect resellers from fluctuations in exchange rates, because nothing physical prevents you from shopping across the world for the cheapest option.
It's only dodgy if it's happening in the same legal market (within the US or within the EU), but there's nothing preventing it otherwise.

I don't get why Chaos Group does that.

The price I got from our local dealer was 1250 Euro which is double price than the one I found in the US. Why the hell I have to pay double?

Luckily enough I got my license before this happened.

And we have only one dealer.

      That's monopoly, and is unhealthy.

        Country of Origin

It is interesting to see that this is a global problem affecting certain countries.

bill_kastanakis: Are you in the European Union?

BBB3: I completely agree that they are looking after their distributers, but for what purpose? Are those distributers putting so much effort into advertising and promoting vray?

I read somewhere (google ads) that there's a company in the usa that will order the goods for you, get it delivered to them and then ship it onto you.

If anyone has had similar problems please talk up, and tell us your what happened or didn't happen and where your from.

Here's one such company. http://www.myus.com/ I've got no experience with them though.
          www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

            bill_kastanakis,

from us you get it almost half price than what you say, you find us or also many other good resellers in europe under resellers section on the chaosgroup webpage.
            maybe compare some prices...

the price you mentioned is not normal for europe i think. you pay here not more than in USA.
so also no reason to blame chaosgroup

            cheers
            Stefan
