  • Noob question re. light spots on render.

    Hi,

I'm just trying to track down the cause of light spots on my render.

The image attached is the culprit, it's got a series of Vray sphere lights in the high bay lights inside, with one sphere light outside to simulate the sun.

I've dropped the reflectivity on a few maps, which reduced the sparkles, but the spots remain.

Any tips or ideas to help?

    Thanks.

Check for standard materials or just do a complete scene mtl convert.

I'll give it a go, although I'm pretty sure there are vray maps exclusively. (I set the whole lot up, although that's not saying much.....)

I think you have reflective caustics on. Try turning it off.

I didn't have reflective caustics on, but I did have refractive caustics. I turned it off (so both were off) and it didn't change.
I also tried removing the reflection from the textures used in the lights (you won't see it anyway) and put translucency on the skylight panels on the roof to diffuse the light a bit.

It seems to pop up during the irradiance map phase of pre rendering if that helps?

I might start turning off lights to see if I can track it down....

Hmm, it's the interior lights causing the problem, or their interaction with the surrounding environment...

            [EDIT]
Ok, I've traced it down to the reflectors on the highbay lights.

What is the best way to prevent artifacts like this?
Here's a closeup of the highbay light.

One solution might be to add a VRayPlane light in "light portal" mode just below the opening of the light.

              Best regards,
