  • Self illum objects as lights

I read on this board somewhere about creating a standard material, setting the self-illum value to a color and then using an output map in the Self-illum slot.

I assume you were supposed to adjust the RGB level to control the light strenght -- but then results in the light turning white.

What is the proper way to do this? Or maybe I should ask -- is this tip now completely useless since the Vray Wrapper has the Generate GI controls???

Is there any difference between the two methods as far as quality or control?

your probably better off with a self illuminated standard material in a material wrapped and turn recieve GI off since a light doesnt need to recieve light. and use the GI multiplier i assume
using an output tends to push colors towards their solid primary color
