  • Vray on Windows 7

    hi!

    I've intalled Vray for 3dsmax 2010 on Windows 7 32bit.

I'm not able to make the license work correctly. I've yet installed in on other machines with Windows XP, so I'm following the same procedure, but on Windows 7 it doesn't work, both local or remote license method.

Is there something to set for Windows 7?
A sort of "administrato privileges" or any other thing that could block the correct running of Vray?

    Thank you very much!

What kind of errors do you get with the license?

    Best regards,

Well.. I really don't know. I've just installed Vray correctly, I've installed the drivers for the USB key.

When I start 3dsmax and I switch to vray render engine the settings panels and tabs aren't available, it just asks me for the license like if it isn't able to find it.

As I said I've just installed vray on machines with XP and all works correctly.
Here in 7 I've tried both to start manually the VrayLicenseServer, or start it like a service. I've tried also to use a remote license (putting ths USB key on a machine where all works correctly) but nothing.

So I was asking if 7 blocks in some way comunication between Vray and the Licese Server.

      That's all.

I think the first time the V-Ray license server was launched, I got a request from the Windows Firewall to allow it. In the Windows 7 Firewall I have "Launch V-Ray license server" which has the path of the vrlservice.exe, I also have the WIBU-KEY Network server in the Firewall.

Another setting I have is the User Account Control (UAC) set to never notify. Also sometimes when a program does not launch I right click it and change the Compatibility tab to always run in compatibility mode for Vista or XP and the Privilege Level to "Run this program as an administrator". This last thing has solved the problem most of the time.

Like rmejia said, the License Server has to be able to get thru the firewall. I'm running the Vray License Server on Windows 7 64bit, and it works without issue.
