  • Depth Of field Suggestions?

Just Wondering if anybody knows of a way to tweak out vrays DOF to be a little more speedy...i was using X-dof and getting awesome results fast but the renderer crashes when i use that PLUG...and i keep getting crusty edges when using maxes built in DOF effect...Also Vrays built in DOF is painfully slow on my system (2 Gig Athlon, 512 ddr)...unless i'm missing something...even after i turn the SUBDIVS down...its still slow...

I wish someone could build a speedy DOF feature for Vray...i just dont get it...XDOF calculates its results in seconds and looks awesome...when i use vray to render a DOF shot it takes forever...

    Please Anybody have any Suggestions...
This has been slowing me down for sometime now!

Sorry i posted it before but nobody responded...

Thanks in advance for any help!

XDOF's DOF is faking it, its just like Max default scanline rendering motion blur, works to some degree in very simple scenes, but for real production work where you want to avoid heart attacks because of artifacts nothing can beat the real thing. you get what you pay for (in rendering time). There is also no reason why XDOF should't work with vray, just enable the Z-buffer output in the renderer.

Funny but I find VRay's DOF very fast on myXP2000+. You have to know that this is not 2D postproces as XDOF, but fully raytraced.
Have you ever tried Brazil DOF combined with GI? Well you better not
