  • combining falloff and decals

    Hi,

I have a material with a falloff (black to white) in the diffuse slot, so that faces pointing away are whiter than faces pointing towards camera.
But I want a decal (a word) on the object that has an alpha channel (a mask). I don't know where I should put this decal map in the material, if I put it in one of the falloff slots I don't get the result I want. .

The material should be black, with white text on it, and the whole thing should have the falloff effect, not only the black part. The white text map has an alpha channel so I can control the color of the object by it's diffuse color so I don't have to go back to photosomething to change the color of the map if I want the diffuse color different.

Hope you know what I mean...

    regards,

    flipside

(I posted this on discreet board too but I got no replies...)

If I understand right, you can use a mix map, use a falloff to control the mix amount the map and a black color on the main slots.

Just use a composite map. Works like Photoshop except the stack is reversed. You would want the falloff as Map 1 and the decal as Map 2. I used to use this method to put decals all over aircraft. It gets to be pain with too many decals each having to have a discreet mapping ID but now I know better

Anyway, this should work perfect for what you want to do.
