  • red and blue stereo rendering (for use with glasses)

    Hiya-
With Vray, is it possible to do red and blue renders to view with 3d glasses? If so, how? I have seen examples of this but am not sure if another 3rd party plugin was also used. Thanks!

I have done it using VRay as the engine but you need a free third party called 3D Vision from Cebas.

    http://www.cebas.com/us/download_3d_vision.htm

Since I am a one-eyed Jack the red/blue glasses have never worked for me.

Hope that helps and somewhere I have a sample render I'll post later.

        Hi again-
I don't mean to sound stupid, but I install the plugin in R4, and can't figure out how to activate it? It says it's a video post filter. But I don't see it in the list there?

Here is that test image right or wrong?

As for setting up 3D Vision place both the right & left camera in Video Post and highlight them. Now click on Add Image Layer Event (Blue & Yellow Squares Button) and it shold be the first thing on the list.

There should also be two example files with 3D Vision. Also check the plugins path, in max, if I remember the installation creates the path but puts a \\ instead of a \ somewhere in the path.

I would suggest Habware's XIDMARY over the cebas plugin. I have used both and find that XIDMARY is generally more flexible. You can find it here:
            http://www.habware.at/duck4.htm

I also found that using Effectware's "Gray" plugin makes the classic red/blue 3d images look better. You can find it here:
            http://www.effectware.com/cgi-bin/ph...ain.php?lang=1

Also when I setup Xidmary I usually use the "Red Cyan single picture" setting to get the best red/blue 3d effect.

I found that Xidmary works fine with vray unless you use DOF with "get from camera" checked. I found that if you want to use DOF with "get from camera" selected I create two standard target cameras and link them to the xidmary cameras and targets then use the two new cameras in video post and all works fine.

You can see some examples I have made using this technique in one of my online galleries here:
            http://www.boring3d.com/galleries.htm

Here are a few screen grabs of the basic setup.
