  • precalculating Ir and LC

I haven't used vray in quite some time and now I've got a bit of spare time I'd like to get back up to speed with it.

I normally use mental ray and I pre-calculate my final gather and or GI at half size and then reuse the files for the final render. I can generate either of these files without invoking a actual render.

Is it possible to save out the IR and LC passes in a similar manner? I can see where it can be saved and loaded but not a way to generate either without a render?

    Hi,
There is a Indirect Illumination "don't render final image" check box under the Global Switches rollout. I have recently switched from MR too, and used to do the same thing with GI calculated at half res. As you may know - with IR you can set the max rate as -1 to be half the final output resolution, and -2 to be half that again, and so on.

    Hope this helps
