  • Light Cache and new Intel CPU 5500

    h!

I'd like to know if using Vray + 3dsmax on a system with x2 Xeon E5520 with 16 Core in total (HT on), I have to set the Light Cache parameter "Number of Passes" to 16.

    Thank you.

      Ok good, thank you.

In my case my new workstation with x2 Xeon 5520 works in distroibute render with my "old" 2 workstations with x2 Xeon E5410 (8 cores).

The distribuite render is launched on the 5520 workstation, and all the 3 machines works together.

Have I to set 16 anyway on the "Number of Passes" for the light cache?

      Which is the correct setup?

      Thanks a lot.

now that you have a new pc with 16 cores always use 16 number of passes in light cache. with that you make sure that all your scenes will use all your cores. Even if you open your scene in your old computer it will use all your 8 cores so everything will be great.now about the distributed rendering i hope you know that in light cache is not going to use your other two machines.

thank you very much for the infos.

I didn't know that during distribute rendering the Light Cache calculation process isn't take also by other machines but only on the machine where I've launched the render from.

          Bye!
