  • Animation GI issues.

I'm having issues when rendering a sequence using GI. There are a lot of objects moving around in the scene. Using my current settings, I am getting trail effects in the GI shadows. It is a result of rendering a sequence, because it does not show up in single frame renders. For example,... frame 30 has a smeared GI shadow from the previous frames if I render frames 1-30,... but if I just render frames 1,2,3,...30 individually, then everything is fine.(no flicker, no trails)

This renders without problems with direct computation of course, but I don't have enough time on this project to render with those settings.

Unfortunately, I can not post a movie showing what I am talking about,... I hope my description is clear enough.

Here is a shot of my settings,... anything stand out as being the problem? I thought it was a case of the map not being deleted after each frame, but after unchecking that I had the same results.

    Thanks for any help

It is a bit unclear from your post if you are doing this or not, but make sure that you render your animation using the single image setting, not one of the multiframe settings.

Also, are you rendering to a frame sequence or to AVI/Mov? Sometimes some codecs will "break" and create a similar effect.

You might be doing both these things already, in which case I'll be pretty puzzled.

      1. I am using the single frame setting (see screenshot pic)

      2. nope,... rendering to a .tga sequence

I'm hoping there is just a simple setting I've missed, but right now I'm stumped.

          1. ok, I asked because you said it did not occur with single frame, and people sometimes call single image that. Just making sure.

Which VRay version are you using? Have you tried the latest build to see if the problem still exists? Does the problem still exist if you set up a simple scene and animate an object in that?

Looks like Phil figured it out:

            Build 1.09.03c:
Single frame irradiance map was not cleared properly for each frame.

You need to upgrade to the latest version.

ok,... I'll go see if what build I'm using and see if maybe that's the problem.

edit: Problem solved. The latest build fixed the problem. Thanks for the fast responses.
