  • Gobo (projection) of logo on wall in 3ds max / V-Ray

    Hi all,

I need to project a company logo on a wall in 3ds max. This task was very basic and simple in the scanline rendering days, but I can't get it to render anything useful with V-Ray.

When I set up the logo as a black/white .tga in the VRayLight panel, I add the .TGA as the texture. At first, I couldn't see anything resembling my logo at all. I then created a .TGA file that was 3-4 big, thick black/white stripes. Now, I can see that they are stripes, but they are far too blurry. I have tried changing virtually every setting in the VRayLight panel, but nothing seems to help very much.

Any thoughts about how to get a crisp, legible logo to appear as a simulated gobo using V-Ray?

For those that don't know what I'm trying to achieve, here are a couple links to gobos:

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

You could try to use 3dsMax spotlights with projection map with your logo bitmap, and turn on vrayshadows.

Thanks so much! That solved it. I'm relatively new to V-Ray and didn't know that it was advisable to use "regular" max lights. Works great...just like it's supposed to work!
