  • VRay.info material collection beta - need feedback

    I'm currently working on creating a collection of scripted material plugins that extend the VRay material. These materials replace the user interface with one specifically optimized for each material. I addtion there are things going on beneath the surface to make sure settings that affect each other do so in the correct way. The main idea here is to get a collection of materials that are quick to use, and give you good results instantly, with room for tweaking.

    I've decided to release the first beta version of two of the materials in progress: a wax material and a glass material

    More materials are being developed, including metals and carpaint.

    Suggestions on improvements, functions, and other material types are welcome, and much needed. Please post all comments in this thread.

      Just a thought. I know that you've simplified the materials' control interface to the basics, which is awesome, especially for newbies. But, it would also be nice to include little help pop-ups or something to that effect (maybe a legend at the bottom of the roll-up) which explains how the parameters affect the final material. For instance, in the wax shader there could be an explanation of how the thickness paramter works, whether it's affected by object scale, etc. This info doesn't always have to be present - like I said, it may be activiated by a little help button next to the parameter.

      I wish I had the mats in front of me now, but like I said in my email to you earlier, my PC is dead (for a little while), and I hope I'm not mentioning something that already exists.

      In any event, let me know your thoughts.

      Peace: K

              Great suggestion Keith, I'll see if I can include this in the next version. I hope to post an updated version this weekend.

                Yes, this is planned. All materials should get a convert to VRay Mtl button in them when they are done, so that you can get more control over hardcoded parameters if needed.

                        In the meantime, type this in the listener, where X is the material editor slot # of the material and Y is an empty material editor slot #

                        meditmaterials[Y] = copy meditmaterials[X].delegate
